• History:  This stamp was issued to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the United States Naval Academy (October 10, 1845 - October 10, 1995).  The Naval Academy is located in Annapolis, Maryland. George Bancroft, the Secretary of the Navy under President James Polk,  founded the academy.  It is the second oldest of the five service academies.  The school was founded to improve the training of midshipmen.
