History: Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Kris Kringle are a few of the nicknames for the figure more commonly known as Santa Clause. The modern day Santa is based on the historical figure of Christian gift giver Saint Nicholas. In 1823 the poem, A Visit from St. Nicholas, contributed to the popularity of the plump, joyous, white bearded man with the red coat and black boots. Since then, many more songs, television specials, and children's books have been produced leaving many children across the world waiting in anticipation for Jolly Old Saint Nick to drop down their chimney every year to place presents under their Christmas Tree.
