• History:  Lila (December 25, 1889 - May 8, 1984) and DeWitt  (November 12, 1889 - March 30, 1981) Wallace were American magazine publishers.  They co-founded Reader's Digest, publishing the first issue in 1922.   The Wallace's were also well know philanthropists donating millions of dollars to various causes. Two of their favorite were the arts and education.
