History: Stephen Vincent Benét (July 22, 1898 - March 13, 1943) was an American writer best known for his Pulitzer Prize winning book-length poem on the American Civil War, titled John Brown's Body. His 1929 story, The King of Cats was selected by The Library of America to be included in their two-century reflective book, American Fantastic Tales. A part-time contributor to Time Magazine in their early years, Benét published his first book at the age of 17. Following his graduation from Yale University in 1919, he judged the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition and the Yale University Press for 10 years.
