History: The first modern Winter Olympics was held in Chamonix, France in 1924. The first games consisted of five sports. They were the bobsled, curling, ice hockey, Nordic skiing (military patrol, cross-country, Nordic combined, and ski jumping), and skating (figure and speed). Since its start, the Winter Games has added Alpine skiing, luge, freestyle skiing, skeleton, and snowboarding. The games are held every four years, and until 1992, they were the same year as the Summer games.
