History: Lucille Ball (August 6, 1911 - April 26, 1989) had one of the longest careers in Hollywood. She got her start as a performer on Broadway under the stage name Diane Belmont in 1929. In 1951, Ball and husband, Desi Arnaz created the show she is most famous for, I Love Lucy. The show ran through 1957, and in 1962, she became the first woman to run a major television studio. Lucille Ball was nominated for thirteen Emmys and won four. In 1986, she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center Honors, and appeared in film and television series up until her death in 1989 at the age of 77.
