History: The Arctic Tundra is located in Earth's Northern Hemisphere near the North Pole. The average temperature throughout the year is only 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit and as a result the landscape is completely frozen for most of the year. It is not possible for trees to grow because the soil is permanently frozen from about 1 to 3 feet deep. One of the more well-known forms of wildlife to inhabit the Arctic Tundra is the caribou, popularly known as the reindeer. Natural resources such as oil and uranium are known to exist in this region, but due to the harsh and frigid conditions the area rarely sees any human activity.
