Description:

Introduced in 1986, the popular and iconic American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. The classic Walking Liberty featured on the obverse has long been a collector favorite. After 35 years, this famous design has been refreshed, while the reverse features a completely new design.

The 2021 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Reverse Proof Two Coin Set Designer Edition contains one original and one newly re-designed American Eagle One Ounce Silver Coin with stunning reverse proof finishes.

Original Design:

The 2021 obverse original design features Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left.

The 2021 reverse original design features a heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.

Each coin with the original designs bears the “W” mint mark reflecting it’s striking at the West Point Mint.

New Design:

The 2021 obverse new design features a refreshed depiction of Weinman’s Liberty. For the “refreshed” redesign, the United States Mint returned to its original historical assets to render a closer reflection of Weinman’s original vision and detail.

The 2021 reverse new design features an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest.

Each coin with the new designs bears the “S” mint mark reflecting its striking at the San Francisco Mint. To give the new coins an added level of security, they are updated with enhanced security features, including a reeded edge variation.

What is a Certified Coin?

Certified coins, also known as slabbed coins or just slabs, are coins that have been graded by a third-party grading service. Once graded, the coin is sonically sealed in a tamper-evident plastic coin holder known as a slab. Certified coins can provide an extra measure of security when buying coins, insuring that the coin is authentic, problem free and un-doctored. Furthermore, some services offer an additional guarantee that the coin has not been over graded and maintain policies to protect the buyer.

All of the respected services grade coins according to wear, using industry standards. These standards can be found in two books, Official A.N.A. Grading Standards for United States Coins and the book Photograde: A Photographic Grading Guide for United States Coins.

In the business of coin grading, there are two services that stand out, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), and Numismatic Guarantee Corporation (NGC). Both were established in the mid 1980s and are considered the "Gold Standard" of grading services. These are the companies that every other company is compared to.

Both PCGS & NGC guarantee the grade and authenticity of any Certified Coin that meets their high standards. Each coin is closely examined by two or three expert graders and then sonically sealed in a tamper-evident plastic holder, with a serial number, description & grade. PCGS & NGC coins can be traded site unseen with confidence.
