• History: Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) was the wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and by extension the First Lady of the United States from 1933 to 1945. She is renowned for being one of the most active and outspoken First Ladies in American history. She advocated in favor of civil rights in America, especially for minority groups, and served as the first chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights after leaving the White House. She was one of the key figures in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
