History: Montana, also known as "The Treasure State," became the 41st state in the Union on November 8, 1889. Montana is the 4th largest state by area but only the 44th by population, making it one of the least densely populated states. For this reason, Montana is most known for its wide open countryside, the Rocky Mountains occupying the western half of the state, and prairie taking up the eastern half. This stamp sheet commemorates the centennial of Montana's statehood.
