History: This rare stamp sheet is a recalled variety of Scott #2869, which celebrates famous pioneers, Native Americans, cowboys, and performers associated with the West. The USPS mistakenly used a photograph of Bill Pickett's brother, Ben Pickett, as the basis for the portrait for #2870g. Only a month after the stamp's release, the descendants of the Picketts informed the USPS of the error. The stamps were recalled and a new version was released with a corrected illustration.
