• History:  The 1994 World Cup Soccer Championships were held in nine cities across the United States from June 17th through July 17th.  The 1994 World Cup was the 15th staging and the first to be held in the United States. It was also the first World Cup to be decided by a  penalty shootout. Brazil beat Italy after a 0-0 draw in regulation, becoming the first nation to win four World Cup titles.  The 1994 World Cup was the last to feature only 24 teams. It also broke the attendance record with an average of about 69,000 fans per match, a feat that still stands today.
