History: The term "Xtreme Sports" refers to activities thought of as having a high level of potential danger. These sports generally include speed, height, and/or a high level of physical effort. It is thought that the Dangerous Sports Club of Oxford University first started the extreme sports trend. In 1979, they made the first ever modern bungee jump from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England. Today's extreme sports was made popular in 1995 when ESPN developed the first X Games which was held in Newport, Rhode Island. The X Games are now held in the summer and winter with different events for the two seasons. The summer games involve motocross, BMX and mountain biking, and skateboarding. The winter games consist of skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling.
