History: Celebrated in the United States and Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is the celebration held on May 5th where Mexicans and Mexican Americans honor their ethnicity. On May 5th, 1862, the Mexican Army defeated the French forces at the Battle of Puebla. Considerably outnumbered, the 4,000 soldier Mexican Army defeated the 8,000 soldier French Army, which had not lost a battle for almost 50 years. This event was the last time a country in the Americas had been invaded by a European military force.
