History: On July 4th, 1976, the United States celebrated the 200th birthday of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the memory of the American Revolution. When Congress created the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission in July of 1966, they began to plan the celebration that would come ten years later. This celebration was originally to take place in either Boston or Philadelphia. After much debate, it was recommended that a single event would not be fit, and in December of 1973, the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration was formed to coordinate locally sponsored events in which the entire country would be able to join in the festivities.
