History: Best known for her self-portraits, Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 - July 13, 1954) was a Mexican born painter who started creating her works of art after suffering serious injuries when a bus she was riding collided with a trolley car. At the time of her accident, she was studying medicine, which she abandoned to start her career as an artist due to her being temporarily immobilized. Kahlo once said, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." Her cause of death has created much debate. The official cause of death was listed as a pulmonary embolism, but many believe she died of an overdose that may not have been accidental.
