History: Born in Mississippi, Jim Henson (September 24, 1936 - May 16, 1990) was a puppeteer, artist, cartoonist, screenwriter, actor, director, and producer. Best known for his creation of The Muppet Show, Henson began developing puppets while in high school. Henson's first big break was in the 1970s when he began creating characters for the tv show Sesame Street. With characters like Kermit the Frog, and shows such as Fraggle Rock, Henson has been a staple in children's lives for generations. In 1990, at the age of 53, Henson died from a bacterial infection. The following year, he was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was awarded the Disney Legends Award in 2011.
