• History: AMBER is officially an acronym for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, but was named for Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old girl from Texas who was abducted in 1996.  The AMBER alert is a child abduction alert system that is distributed by radio stations, the internet, television stations, and other media outlets to alert the public that a child in the area has gone missing.  Since the United States has implemented the AMBER alert system, countries around the world have adopted the tool in the event a child is abduction.
