  • History: This Children's Book Animals stamp sheet features eight characters from popular children's books. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was first published in 1969, and has been described as having sold the equivalent of a copy per minute since its publication.  It was voted the number two children's picture book in a 2012 survey of School Library Journal readers.  Charlotte's Web was published in 1952, and tells a story of a pig named Wilber and his friendship with a spider named Charlotte.  It was listed by Publisher's Weekly, in 2000, as the best-selling children's paperback of all time.  Published in 1965, Fox in Socks features two main characters, Fox and Knox.  Like many Dr. Seuss books, Fox in Socks is full of rhymes and tongue twisters.  Maisy's ABC is an alphabet book where each letter of the alphabet represents a different character of the book.  Maisy is the main character and lives in a yellow house with a red roof.  Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book which was voted as the number one picture book in a 2012 survey of School Library Journal readers, which it had also won in previous years.  Curious George is about a monkey named George who is brought from his home in Africa by "The Man in the Yellow Hat" to live with him in the big city.  The curious monkey was first introduced in 1941, and has been continuously in print ever since.  The Olivia book series was inspired by Falconer's niece, and made its first appearance in 2000.  Inspired by the style of Dr. Seuss, Falconer decided to draw the first book in black and white with the occasional splash of red.  Frederick was published in 1967, and instead of gathering food for winter like the rest of his friends, this small field mouse collects sun rays and stories that warms the hearts of his fellow field mice to get them through the cold winter.
