History: Bob Hope (May 29, 1903 - July 27, 2003) was born in England. As a child he sold newspapers in the street for 2 cents each, he dropped out of high school and went on to have a noteworthy entertainment career. Throughout his career Hope performed multiple times with singer-songwriter legend Bing Crosby. Under the alias "Packy East" he participated in 4 boxing matches, 3 of which he won. Doing his part for the war effort Hope performed overseas for the troops many times. In 1997, he was declared the "first and only honorary veteran of the U.S. armed forces" by Congress. Once his plane took gunfire while on his way to perform overseas, when asked about the incident he responded, "I have critics everywhere."
