• History: Old Faithful is a famous geyser in Yellowstone National Park. It was given its name for being one of the most consistent geysers known which erupts about every 90 minutes. Each eruption can spew anywhere from 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of water. During an eruption Old Faithful will shoot boiling hot water for 2 to 5 minutes, bursts will rise anywhere from 105 to 185 feet (185 is the current record). There have been around 140,000 eruptions recorded. There are taller and larger geysers known, but Old Faithful is the most popular because of how often eruptions occur.
