New industries developed as a result of America's automobile boom, such as the drive-in movie theater and the "drive-thru" at fast food establishments. This decade also saw a massive expansion in the U.S. Highway system when President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the Federal Highway Act of 1956.
