We are pleased to offer for sale this 1791 Washington Large Eagle Cent Post Colonial Issue coin graded and encapsulated as XF-40 by PCGS with CAC Verification Sticker.  CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation) is an independent numismatic coin authentication service that verifies the coin grade after PCGS grading.  There were relatively few of these 1791 Large Eage Washington Cent made, with most modern approximations of around 2,500 total.

There were several varieties of coins commemorating George Washington minted between 1783 and 1795.  This Large Eagle Washington Cent was produced in England for potential use as currency in the United States.  The firm of W. and Alexander Walker commissioned John Gregory Hancock to create two cents to be sent to America in the hopes of securing a federal minting contract.  These coins were never made en masse, as Washington was opposed to the idea of having his image on any coin, and also against contract minting of American coins in Europe.  The coins sent over as samples were nonetheless put into circulation.   After 1795 a U.S. president would not grace coins again until 1909, with the first Lincoln Wheat Cent.  This Post-Colonial Washington Cent is of great value to the collector who needs to fill a hole in their Post Colonial Collection. We offer an incredible selection of PCGS and NGC certified Cents!
